Children's University

Picture 1

In year 3, 4,5 and 6 the children are partaking in the Children's University on Friday afternoons.

What are the aims:

The Children’s University is an International critically-acclaimed charity which encourages all children to try new experiences, develop new interests and acquire new skills through participation in innovative and creative Learning Activities outside of the school day. Learning Activities are designed to:

  • raise aspiration, self-esteem & confidence
  • encourage curiosity and a love of learning
  • enhance motivation and build resilience
  • introduce new life experiences
  • offer progression in learning and personal skills development

How will Children's University look at Coleshill Heath

Children's University will take place in the last session on Friday afternoons for the children in year 3, 4, 5 and 6. The children have chosen their courses and they have been allocated one of their top four choices.

Every Friday, the children will be attending their Children's University course and will achieve a stamp for every hour that they attend. In addition to this children will be able get additional stamps for before and after school clubs as long as they have been validated by the CU co-ordinator. At the end of the year, children who achieved specific awards or are specifically chosen will attend a presentation at Birmingham University. How to get involved

This year Children's University would like  pupil's families to be involved with the  launch of CU Families!   This will be a route for CU to directly promote Children's University to you via email.

Children's University families need to send a contact email address which will be held on our database, in complete confidence.  The family will then receive emails directly from CU (only concerning CU, of course) including the 'Learning Destination' Watch, and new activities and opportunties as they become available.

Please see the attached form for more information.

The official national Children’s University Trust™ Awards

There are three groups: Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate, with four levels in each.  The first level is called the Award level:

30 hours =   Bronze Award certificate

65 hours =   Silver Award  certificate

100 hours =   Gold Award certificate

There are progressive steps leading all the way up to 1000 hours of learning at the top Doctorate level.    We ask children to participate in at least 10 hours of ‘something new’ for each award level above Bronze/Award level.

As part of the Children’s University each child receives:

  • A CU Passport To Learning
  • Access to CU Learning Activities provided by CU quality assured Learning Destinations.
